The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, Inc.,will co-host a free webinar 26 July 2016 on differential pressure flowmeter calibration.
The webinar, which will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time, will feature three automation experts: David Spitzer, PE, founder of Spitzer and Boyes; Ned Espy, Technical Director at Beamex; and Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer at Beamex.
Flow measurement systems can be critical to control process safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness—especially when custody transfer and billing are involved. As a result, periodic flowmeter calibrations are needed to ensure the proper, accurate operation of many process plants and systems. Calibrating flow measurement systems in a flow laboratory, however, can be cumbersome and expensive. This webinar will bring clarity to differential pressure flowmeter calibration and provide a best-practice approach to partially calibrating flowmeters in the field.
“As a trainer, I continually ask my students, ‘What do you want to know more about? Is there an application that needs to be demystified?’ Flow calibration is consistently among the top three answers. This webinar will take a look at calibrating flow using a common differential pressure (DP) transmitter. We will teach the audience what is possible to accomplish on the plant floor, without a flow calibration laboratory,” explains Tomalino at Beamex.

About the presenters
David Spitzer is a founder of Spitzer and Boyes, LLC, a technical service and strategic consulting company that advises instrumentation users, manufacturers and representatives on flow measurement, level measurement, engineering and market research.
A registered Professional Engineer, Spitzer possesses more than 40 years of experience across many areas of instrumentation, process control, and electrical and utility engineering. His expertise includes teaching, troubleshooting and expert witness work.
Spitzer has worked for United States Steel, Mobay Chemical and Nepera Chemical, and has consulted for numerous companies worldwide. He serves on or has served on the editorial advisory boards of InTech magazine, InTech Brasil magazine and Flow Control magazine. He also serves on various ASME committees—focusing on the measurement of fluid flow in closed conduits.
Spitzer is the author of several textbooks used in industry, such as Flow Measurement, Second Edition and Industrial Flow Measurement, Third Edition, and is the author of several consumer guides for designers, engineers, owners and end-users of instrumentation equipment
Spitzer has taught numerous ISA training seminars over the past 30 years and has received numerous industry awards. He earned a master’s of science degree in electrical engineering in optimal control from the University of Illinois.
Ned Espy, Technical Director at Beamex, has more than 27 years of direct field experience in instrumentation measurement applications. He’s been concentrating on calibration management at Beamex for over 20 years.
Espy is a recognized expert in developing best practices for calibration, with a particular focus on temperature, pressure and multi-variable instruments. A consistent editorial contributor to leading industry publications, Espy has received significant acclaim within the automation industry. Each day, Espy teaches calibration best practices and provides technical support to end users and to the Beamex sales team in North America.
Roy Tomalino, Professional Services Engineer with Beamex, has more than 15 years of technical training experience. He has served as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor on four continents to people from more than 40 countries.
Tomalino was a key player with Honeywell at their Fort Collins, Colorado office, where he supported the “DocuMint” Calibration Management Software and numerous calibrators as a trainer, certified developer and technical advisor.
He earned: a bachelor of science degree in computer information systems from Regis University in Denver, Colorado and an associate of applied science degree in electronics technology from Denver Institute of Technology. Tomalino is also Six Sigma Green Belt certified. Today, he conducts educational training sessions and provides technical support to Beamex customers in North America.
