Scope

The subcommittee activities may include:

  1. studying control valve user requirements for dynamic performance of control valves
  2. defining of terms, performance categories, test methods and instrumentation, performance parameters, specification and ordering requirements
  3. evaluating existing and proposed methods of testing complete valves for dynamic performance parameters
    • on the bench
    • in a laboratory flow test
    • in the process
  4. evaluating existing and proposed methods of separately bench-testing valve actuators and body subassembly modules for dynamic performance capabilities
  5. writing of standards and/or recommended practices for testing control valves for dynamic performance parameters
    • on the bench
    • in a laboratory flow test
    • in the process
  6. writing of standards and/or recommended practices for bench-testing valve actuators and body subassembly modules for dynamic performance capabilities

Purpose

To write standards that promote uniform testing, reporting, and specifying of control valve dynamic performance. Control valve dynamic capabilities depend on many factors, including: valve size and construction, actuator size and construction, positioner performance, process conditions, test methods and instrumentation, etc. Likewise, performance requirements depend on process specifications, control strategy, instrumentation and control loop response, etc. Users and manufacturers of throttling control valves share a mutual concern for specifying and providing control valves that meet the performance requirements of each application. A publicly approved standard should establish the terminology, test methods, reporting and classification of test results, and performance categories for the broad range of control valves and control applications.
