2001 Valley View Lane
Irving, TX 75061 USA
Wednesday, 5 October 2016

The Savannah is more than a “steamship.” She is the first example of globalized high technology in history. Historian and author John Laurence Busch will attempt to re-calibrate your mind before showing why the proposition of making the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean on a "steamship" was met with a mixture of skepticism and fear.  Then he will show how Captain Rogers addressed those fears, by designing a new kind of steam vessel, capable of overcoming the dangers of the deep.

Industrial Robotics and Applications Workshop

The St. Joseph’s College of Engineering in Chennai, India organized a workshop on the topic of industrial robotics in collaboration with the AXIS training group. The basics of robotics and various hardware and software’s related to the topic were introduced to the students. Since automation is one of the most important topics related to our branch, the workshop not only introduced the audience to the subject, but also triggered great curiosity on the working of robots.

The response of the 40 students present was impressive. The trainers started off by teaching the basics of robotics, which involved introducing the most preliminary terms. This allowed the students to gain a strong foundational understanding before moving to greater detail and depth. Instruction continued on how to operate robots using software skills. At the end of the session, students were provided additional instruction and quizzed on the workings of relay switches.

The most interesting part session was the live interaction with the YASKAVA 6 axis robot. Each and every student was given the opportunity to operate the robot.

Automation Expo 2016 – India

Automation Expo 2016, India’s largest automation event and Southeast Asia’s second largest automation event, was held 22-25 August, 2016, in Mumbai.

The 11th edition of the show—held at the Bombay Exhibition Center, a sprawling facility encompassing 23,000 square meters—showcased a wealth of futuristic technologies and innovations.

The exposition highlighted the fact that the automation industry in India is expected to reach INR 197 billion by 2020. This is due to the rapid adoption of newer technologies that are increasing factory throughput and enhancing India’s image as a global player in product development and delivery.

With the development of the Indian manufacturing sector, the need is growing for greater productivity, profitability, safety and sustainable manufacturing processes. The concept of semi-knock down manufacturing and domestic manufacturing is likely to increase in the future due to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and relaxation of FDI policies in the manufacturing sector across different industries.

In addition, exports of automation products are expected to become more competitive in the world market due to hike in interest rates by the Federal Reserve in the US. The industrial automation market revenues are expected to rise at the CAGR of ~% from FY’2016 to FY’2020, reaching industry sales worth INR 197.0 billion in FY’2020.

The four-day, power-packed exhibition showcased innovations from across all automation fields, including: process automation and control systems; factory automation; industrial automation; electric automation; field instrumentation and smart sensors; robotics and drives; software solutions; bus technologies; wireless technology; building automation; hydraulics and pneumatics; automation in renewable energy; and safety and security systems. Furthermore, for the first time, a special area was   dedicated to robotics; technology and industrial Internet of Things; start-ups; and solar technology.

Since its inception more than a decade ago, Automation Expo has evolved to achieve premier status as an industry event, and is recognized as the place to go for discovering and learning about the world’s best automation technology.

ISA District 14 operated a booth at the Expo. ISA’s Maharashtra Section took the lead in managing it and conducting a membership drive. The booth displayed ISA local section activities throughout India, and booth personnel distributed collateral and brochures that promoted ISA activities and the benefits of joining the Society. The booth also displayed posters of successful events conducted by local ISA sections within District 14.

ISA’s Maharashtra Section seized the opportunity to train student leaders from different colleges on how to operate an exhibition booth and present ISA’s marketing brand. The event also provided students with an ideal opportunity to interact and network with automation industry professionals (under the able guidance of Lalit Bangera, the Maharashtra Section Program Chair). The booth was visited by more than 500 visitors across India, as event attendees were eager to obtain information about ISA.
